धृतराष्ट्र उवाच
धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे समवेता युयुत्सवः ।
मामकाः पाण्डवाश्चैव किमकुर्वत सञ्जय ।।
धृतराष्ट्र ने कहा – हे संजय! धर्मक्षेत्र कुरुक्षेत्र में युद्ध की इच्छा से एकत्रित मेरे और पांडु के पुत्रों ने क्या किया?
यहाँ धृतराष्ट्र अपने सारथी संजय से, जिन्हें दिव्य दृष्टि प्राप्त है, युद्ध के प्रारंभ से पहले का हाल पूछ रहे हैं। कहीं ना कहीं उन्हें अभी भी विश्वास है कि यहाँ से भी युद्ध टल जाएगा और पांडव इंद्रप्रस्थ पर से अपना अधिकार छोड़ देंगे। हालांकि वे यह भी जानते हैं कि श्री कृष्ण द्वारा लाया गया प्रस्ताव ठुकराकर वे पहले ही सारे शांति के द्वार स्वयं बंद कर चुके हैं।
Dhritrashtra said – O Sanjay! What did my and Pandu’s sons, who have assembled at holy place of Kurukshetra with the intent of war, do?
Here, Dhritrashtra is asking to his charioteer Sanjay, who has got divine power to see anything anywhere, about the situation before start of war. Somewhere, he is still hopeful that war can still be stopped and Pandavas will leave their right over the kingdom of Indraprastha. Although he also knows that he himself has closed all doors on any kind of compromise by rejecting the proposal brought by Shri Krishna.
